Last night I opened up the Naked Acoustic Sessions, for our 3rd Season at my Living Room #13 LIVING ROOM #13 (second life) http://slurl.com/secondlife/Gwampa%20Tropics/68/33/485h…
I had a strong line up of talented songwriters/performers who were sharing the stories behind their songs and the ideas and events that led to the writing of their songs. It was a very intimate experience and all and all we had about 20 people there throughout the show, sometimes the crowd thinned out and sometimes it became warm with a quietness of a dedicated crowd. Out of all the people that came to see the 5 Musicians …Only 1 person complained about the cover charge. She said “Phht, PAY for LIVE MUSIC what a WASTE!” at which time another fan in the audience said “you waste more money on a latte from starbucks, THIS is a STEAL!’…we bid her goodbye, it was unnecessary for her to even show up, considering the Event was well advertised as a Ticketed Event, which came to $2, which covered all 5 musicians.
The Land feature to charge, did not work, and the vendor I had which is truly amazing, worked for few times, and then decided it didn’t want to work anymore. So basically most people got in, without paying the cover charge. I decided the hassel was not worth it, as the show was happening and I didn’t want people to get ejected for not paying, IF the system were to suddenly work.
Loran Andretti, from France started the Live Music at 4pm, and he had the crowd sealed quiet with his jazzy, folk, rock style. I intentionally lined up the musicians so that each musician would compliment the one before and after them and to be quite honest, most people that came for Loran’s show, stayed the entire 5 hours to hear Morton Shamen, Capo Freenote, DanLange Diavolo and Tone Uriza. The event went surprisingly well, and as expected, each musician was professional, polite and wonderfully interactive with their audience.
I am pleased to say, Naked Acoustic Sessions, happens for the next 4-5 Months and will take place about 1-2x a month. Whether or not I do a Ticketed Event again, is really up to how the land system works and/or the ‘bots’ that many offer to help with these issues, which allows fans to listen for a few moments before deciding to pay the cover charge, or leave..or be ejected from the Bot.
I do like the Bot Idea, and I’ll talk more about that, once I get things working and can make an informed comment. At the moment, there is much to learn about the options of how it works, etc.
The only disappointment, however, are the people that expect everything to be free and in public chat, say the childish things they do. Thankfully, these people are rare, and most people have much more tact than to make a scene about $2. All the musicians I know in Second Life, will perform a free show, most will perform Ticketed events, and most all will take the Fee they charge, if a Venue wishes to give that artist, their value, and the Artists in second life that are Pro’s, all deserve to be paid, Just like in Real Life…the virtual is the same. There are so many who say they LOVE this persons music or That persons music, but when it comes down to a small cover charge, they actually go out of their way to let the Musician know, in so many words, they are not worth it. YES THEY ARE WORTH IT.
All ticketed shows are advertised as such, so those that read the info. are informed and know this. Of course the one person who complained, well, I believe she didn’t read the info and was hoping she could catch a free ride at a very Unique show in a very unique setting. Living Room #13 has been around for several years, and has always had it’s Main Focus on original Live Talent. Not just anyone plays at LR #13, they are hand picked over a process of how they present themselves, how professional they are, and some great in length discussion about their music. I have refused to have some perform, because the standard of the Living Room has always been Live, Organic and Raw…no backing tracks, no loops, although there are MANY TALENTED Musicians who use backing tracks….and I support them heavily in SL, however at LR#13, there is a standard that the fans have come to adore, admire and respect, and I will always make sure I live up to that high standard.
It was an amazing show, and you can check out all the names of the artists by looking them up on Facebook, My Space, ReverbNation, TheSixtyone.com etc….they are WELL worth listening to.
Thank you for all of your support for this event and I look forward to seeing your faces again. And THANK YOU SO MUCH Loran Andretti, Morton Shamen, Capo Freenote, DanLange Diavolo and Tone Uriza for performing an incredible show full of intimate stories, some which I have never heard… well MOST I have never heard the stories, there were some very moving experiences happening between musicians and listeners.
The Next Naked Acoustic is Oct 28th, Same location.
SAY SOMETHING? ok..i did
I’m bipolar…. or at least that’s what the therapists tell me…. or want to tell me so that I’ll keep coming back and working on my issues with them.
For me: what it is FOR ME… is that there’s a chemical imbalance in my brain. What happens is either for reason, or without reason, I will suddenly change mood. At moments where I am having a great time, the “normal person” would continue to have a great time… but for me, instead, there’s like a click in my brain that suddenly shuts off the good time serration and melatonin and suddenly I become extremely self-aware, and self-conscious of it happening… and it pulls me out of the moment of having this great time.
Bipolar isn’t some kind of nutjob lunatic thing…. We don’t laugh at funerals and we aren’t saddened when babies are born. It’s just a small switch in the brain that disrupts the current ‘in the moment’ emotion, and swaps it with an unfitting emotion.
thats my opinion anyway. And I said that to my last therapist right before I walked out of her office telling her she wouldn’t be getting paid.
I don’t know if the emotion is Always unfitting, sometimes it’s very fitting…perhaps a bit exaggerated from time to time. But being able to pull things together out of an emotion, seems rather proper (since madness is like that) LOL
